My name is Kara Higgins and I'm an artist who lives in Sherborne, Dorset working as ARTKARA.

My inspiration originates in the town and countryside surrounding me. Whilst strolling through the streets, hiking across the fields or walking the South West Coast Path I am looking for the decisive moment when the sunlight and shadows combine to create a perfect image to capture in a photograph.

Back in my studio I reflect on my experiences, and from my photos I evolve my paintings by hand through a painstaking digital process. When the jigsaw puzzle of shapes, colour and composition is complete it is then the time to commit to canvas using vibrant acrylic paint.

I then produce a bespoke handmade frame to mount each canvas, following the act of making through to the end. 

My work is available as original acrylic paintings or Giclee prints (on textured paper - a premium quality, archival, heavy-gauge etching paper imported from Germany. This material gives my work incredible luminosity and depth of colour).
